About this piece
The Liberty Head double eagle was the largest gold coin in regular American circulation, struck from 1850 until 1907 to a design by James B. Longacre.
This example was struck in 1883 at the San Francisco Mint, identified by the S mint mark beneath the eagle. From 1877 the reverse carried the denomination spelled out as TWENTY DOLLARS, marking the Type III issue.
Each coin contains just under one troy ounce of fine gold, so its value rests on both the metal and its standing with collectors of American gold.
Viewing and collection are by appointment in Hong Kong. Spot-linked prices follow the market and are not fixed until an order is confirmed.
