About this piece

The Royal Mint introduced the Britannia in 1987 as Britain’s own gold bullion coin, making this the first year of issue.

Philip Nathan’s standing Britannia, holding a trident and olive branch beside the Union shield, appears on the reverse; the obverse carries Raphael Maklouf’s crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and a face value of 100 pounds.

Early Britannias were struck in 22 carat gold alloyed with copper, giving a warmer tone than the later silver-alloyed and 999.9 fine issues. The coin contains one troy ounce of fine gold.

Viewing and collection are by appointment in Hong Kong. Spot-linked prices follow the market and are not fixed until an order is confirmed.
